What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is a part of a network of national service programs that each take a different approach to improving lives and fostering civic engagement. As a subgrantee of the only federal agency for National Service and Volunteerism, our program is committed to uniting individuals and organizations to tackle our island's toughest challenges, strengthening organizations by providing people power to improve communities while impacting the lives of those we serve and those who serve the community, in hopes of leading to the betterment of communities across our island.
The AmeriCorps University of Guam Volunteer Center is an AmeriCorps State and National program under the Serve Guam Commission. In line with AmeriCorps' motto to "GET THINGS DONE!", our program through it’s AmeriCorps members is committed to making an impact in the community through direct services in the following focus areas:
- Education (K-12 & Post-Secondary Students): To improve academic performance and promote college readiness
- Environmental Stewardship: Community Outreach & Awareness
- Disaster Services: Community Outreach & Awareness in Disaster Mitigation, Preparation, Recovery, and Response
- Capacity Building: Volunteer Recruitment
AmeriCorps Guam – AmeriCorps Pledge
Being an AmeriCorps member is personally fulfilling as you will be helping people, strengthening communities, and simply getting things done.
Additionally, AmeriCorps provides valuable experiences that will enrich your character and enhance your perspectives, two things that will benefit you throughout your life and career.
It also has financial rewards! Membership also comes with a monthly living allowance of $650, and members who complete at least 900 hours of service receive a $3,697.50 Seagul Education Award (Scholarship).
Application Process
Application cycles begin every October for service in the following calendar year. For the 2024-2025 program year (January – December 2025 Service period), applications are due no later than December 15, 2024.
Eligibility
Students and community members are eligible to apply for AmeriCorps if they meet the following eligibility requirements:
- U.S. citizen or national lawful permanent resident
- At least 17 years old
- Valid U.S. Social Security Number
- Able to serve 20 – 25 hours per week from Monday through Friday and an additional four hours on Saturdays
This program is available to all, without regards to race, color, national origin, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity or expression, political affiliation, marital or parental status, genetic information and military service.
Applying
- Print the PDF application form, and visit Serve Guam Commission, 41 West Soledad Ave. GCIC Building, Suite 202 Hagatna to submit a hard copy OR
- Create a profile on the AmeriCorps website and apply online!

- Social Security Card
- High School Diploma, GED, or transcripts to use the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award
- ONE of the following:
- US Passport OR
- US Birth Certificate with valid government photo ID OR
- Valid Lawful Permanent Resident Card/Green Card

The AmeriCorps office is temporarily located at the GCIC building in Hagåtña.
