Advisement and Registration

All entering freshmen and transfer applicants who have not completed at least three semester hours of college-level mathematics course with a grade of “C” or better at an accredited U.S. college or university must take a placement examination in mathematics.

Transfer applicants who have completed at least three semester hours of transferable college-level composition will need to have transcripts sent from their institution to the UOG Admissions & Records Office to determine credit and course equivalencies. They may be exempt from taking the EPT.

New students will receive a personal invitation through email to meet with their assigned academic adviser prior to advisement and registration based on placement, major, and adviser availability.

Admission under this status is limited to one semester. Students may send unofficial transcript(s) to admitme@triton.uog.edu for a preliminary evaluation.

Placement Test Fees

All students who need to take the placement test are required to pay testing fees in advance before registering online. There is a $10 fee for English Preparedness Test and $25 fee for the Math Placement Test.

Payments can be made at the UOG Bursar's Office at the Administration Building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please note that the cashier closes at 4 pm.

Online payments for each test can also be made here:

English Preparedness Test

Because all new freshmen place into EN-110 (Freshman Composition), you are now required* to take the English Preparedness Test (EPT).

  1. At a point during your application process, you will be directed to pay $10 EPT fee through the UOG Bursar’s office or online (click this link for more information about paying placement test fees). Please ensure that the EPT payment is made before you take the test.

  2. After 3 working days after applying online for admission, contact helpdesk@triton.uog.edu and provide one (1) photo ID to release your official UOG email account login credentials

    Note: Even though you may have received advising and already registered for an EN-110 class, you will still need to complete the EPT diagnostic.

  3. Log in to Moodle through your MS Office 365 login button found on the Moodle login page to check and see if you have been enrolled in the EPT. The UOG Moodle help desk will enroll you in the EPT Moodle course shell. Once you are enrolled, you will find the EPT-Composition course shell on your dashboard and you can take the test. Please contact Moodle Team at (671) 735-2620 or email moodlehelp@triton.uog.edu if you need assistance.

  4. Click on the EPT course, watch the Welcome Video, and follow instructions carefully.

When the first two conditions are met, Admissions & Records will send you a reminder to take the EPT. The EPT Moodle page will be available for Tinalo' 2024 (Fall Intersession) students from Monday, November 18, 2024, to Monday, December 16, 2024, and for Fañomnåkan 2025 (Spring) students from Monday, November 18, 2024, to Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

You have up to one week to work on each of the test prompts once you decide to begin the test.

When you take this test, you will need:

  • An environment (at home or in other places you work) that is free from distraction;

  • A stable internet connection;

  • A device on which to compose (phone, computer, laptop, etc.); and

  • Your official UOG email account login credentials (username and password). If you do not know your access information, please contact helpdesk@triton.uog.edu

Your results will NOT be posted on the Moodle course site. Instead, a diagnostic report will be prepared by the EPT assessment team and made available to you and your EN 110 instructor around the fourth week of the semester in which you take Freshmen Composition.

For more information, please contact the English Dept. (671) 735-2725 or Teresita Perez tperez@triton.uog.edu

*Students who have official AP scores OR an equivalent EN 110 transfer credit which places them into EN 111 directly do not need to take the EPT and do not need to pay for an EPT test fee. Please check with Admissions and Records if either of these conditions apply to you.
