Financial aid is available in several different forms. Use this list to familiarize yourself with the different types of aid. Then, use our easy 3-step process to apply for all the financial aid opportunities listed here.

Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

A variety of grants, loans, and work-study programs that can be applied for with a single application. See Step 1 of the Financial Aid Process.

Local Financial Aid (SFAP)

Money available through the Government of Guam that the student does not need to pay back or pays back by working on Guam for a set number of years, depending on the program. All Guam financial aid programs require the FAFSA, the SFAP application, and the application for the individual program be submitted. See Step 2 of the Financial Aid Process.

Grants

Money awarded to a student that does not need to be repaid. There are federal and local grants, which can be applied for through the FAFSA and SFAP above. See Steps 1 and 2 of the Financial Aid Process.

Loans

Money that is borrowed and must be repaid with interest. Federal loans are applied for through FAFSA. See Step 1 of the Financial Aid Process. Private loans may also be sought from financial institutions. If you decide to accept any type of federal loan, loan counseling is required by UOG’s Financial Aid Office to help you understand your loan obligations.

Work-Study Programs

Part-time employment that helps pay education expenses. Federal work-study is applied for through the FAFSA and a subsequent Federal Work Study application. See Step 1 of the Financial Aid Process.

Service Pay-Back

Financial assistance given on the condition that the student work in a certain field or location for a specific amount of time after they graduate. These opportunities are available through the Guam SFAP. See Step 2 of the Financial Aid Process.

Scholarships/Awards

Money from various community organizations and businesses that is competitively awarded to applicants based on academic or other specific achievements. The awarded money does not need to be paid back. These are listed on the Scholarships page and are applied for separately from federal or local aid.
