Guam Cancer Registry
The Guam Cancer Registry (GCR) was established in 1998 by Public Law 24-198 to collect cancer data from all health-care providers and non-medical sources within its jurisdiction. In 2004, GCR became a unit of the Cancer Research Center of Guam in a joint venture of the University of Guam, Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services, and the University of Hawaii Cancer Center. Data collected by GCR can reveal patterns and trends in cancer incidence and mortality and provide a baseline against which to judge progress of cancer-control efforts over time. Registry data is useful to those working in the areas of cancer control and prevention, health policy development and advocacy, health promotion and prevention, clinical services delivery, support services for cancer patients, and healthcare financing. It is used to support cancer research and obtain funding as island stakeholders work together to reduce the burden of cancer on our island.
