STORYBOARD 21: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Storyboard 21 Call for Submissions
Submission Deadline: December 13, 2024
Theme: "Unfit"
Description: When sharing their work, writers and artists often perform to what they perceive are the norms in the spaces they are creating for. They tend to share stories or ideas they think are acceptable to the space they are creating for and/or from. This sometimes produces closeted voices — voices that do not get to be heard because the stories they tell are deemed unfit.
- Storyboard only publishes previously unpublished work.
- Submissions must consist of two (2) parts — the unfit piece and a reflection on the unfit piece:
-
The “unfit” piece: The unfit piece must be a piece of work that authors/artists intentionally did not previously submit for publication or share with others as a result of self-imposed boundaries informed by personal perceptions of “publishability” or readership acceptance. This piece can be textual, visual, or a combination of both.
-
Text Submission (any genre): must not exceed 2,500 words and must be submitted in digital Microsoft Word .doc or .docx format. For longer pieces, please query first.
-
Visual (any medium): must be submitted in digital .jpg format with a minimum of 300 dpi. If larger files must be submitted through a file sharing program, please send an email request to storyboard@triton.uog.edu. Artwork must include a title and caption for each piece submitted in digital Microsoft Word .doc or .docx format.
-
Reflection(s) on the piece may be submitted in any textual or visual form (i.e. critical essay, poem, narrative, illustration, photograph, etc.)
- Writers and artists may submit up to 3 reflection pieces in response to or about their “unfit” piece.
- In total, the textual reflection piece(s) must not exceed 2,500 words and must be submitted in digital Microsoft Word .doc or .docx format.
- Artwork must be submitted in digital .jpg format with a minimum of 300 dpi. If larger files must be submitted through a file sharing program, please send an email request to storyboard@triton.uog.edu. Artwork must include a title and caption for each piece submitted in digital Microsoft Word .doc or .docx format.
- Authors of works in Pacific languages should provide at least rough translations into English for initial evaluation; however, if selected, the piece can be published without translation if requested by the author. The journal is willing to arrange help with translations.
- Accepted pieces may be copyedited and will require the review and approval of the writer within a timely fashion.
