Twenty-eight students from seven high schools participated in 2016 University of Guam High School Chemistry Titration Competition which was held on Charter Day, March 8, 2016 at the UOG Science Building. The participating schools included Harvest Christian Academy, Academy of Our Lady of Guam, John F. Kennedy High School, St. John’s School, St. Paul Christian School, Notre Dame High School, and Father Duenas Memorial School.

The University of Guam Chemistry Department is organizing its 7th Titration Competition for High Schools on March 10, 2015 from 8.30am-2.00pm. The competition will be held in the chemistry laboratory, SC230, at the Science Building on UOG campus. 

All the high schools in Guam are invited to participate in this event. Each school will be allowed to send two teams and each team should comprise two students.  The Best Team and Best Individual prizes will be awarded. Members of chemistry faculty, staff, and students will be facilitating this event

2014 Chemistry Titration Competition Winnners

This years Titration Competition attracted 30 competitors from eight high schools in Guam. The schools that participated were: St Johns School, St Paul Christian School, St Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School, Harvest Christian Academy, Father Duenas Memorial School, Academy of Our Lady of Guam, Notre Dame High School, Guam High School. The winners under the three categories are shown below.

As part of 2014 UOG Charter Day Activities, the University of Guam Chemistry Department is organizing its 6th Annual Titration Competition for high schools on Charter Day, Tuesday, March 11th, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The competition will be held in the Chemistry Laboratory, SC230, at the Science Building on UOG campus. 6th Annual Titration Competition for high schools on the March 11th, 2014 from 8:30am to 2:00pm. Members of the UOG Chemistry faculty, staff, and students will be facilitating this event.

The competition is part of UOG Charter Day celebration. The competition will be held at the chemistry laboratory, SC230, in the Science Building at UOG campus.

All the high schools in Guam are invited to participate in this event. Each school will be allowed to send two teams to this competition and each team comprises two students.  As part of the preparation, a practice session will be held on March 1st, 2013 at 2.00pm. Teams must register to participate in the both practice and the competition. The best team and best individual performances will be recognized. Members of chemistry faculty, staff, and students will be facilitating this event.

Closing date for registration for the competition is February 22, 2013.

Practice Session
The chemistry department will run a practice titration session that is aimed at those who will be competing in order to prepare them for the competition. The practice session is open to all students who have registered for the competition. The Titration Practice session will be held on Friday the 25th February, 2011 at 2-4.50pm. It will also be held in the Chemistry Laboratory, SC230. The Chemistry Program at UOG will be hosting a Titration Competition for High School students on the 9th of March 2010. In order to prepare students for this competition, the chemistry program will hold a practice session on March 5th from 2.00pm –5.00pm. The practice session will be held in Room SC230, Science Building, at UOG. This session is open to all those students who will compete in the main Titration event. In order for your school team(s) to attend the practice run, we will require their names to be sent to us, together with their completed entry forms by March 1st. The practice session is designed to give students more ‘hands-on’ experience in titration and steps in calculation that will be involved. The practice session was also held last year, 2009, and those that attended found it extremely useful. The Chemistry Program at the Division of Natural Sciences in the College of Natural and Applied Sciences of UOG is organizing theTitration Competition for Guam high schools on March, 9th 2010. The competition will be held at the chemistry laboratory located in the second floor (SC 230) of the Science Building at UOG campus. All the high schools in Guam are invited to participate in this event. This competition aims to test the chemical knowledge and the analytical skills of students based on a quantitative laboratory experiment. Each school is allowed to send two teams and each team should consist of two students.  The best team will be judged on the precision and accuracy of their experimental values. Schools that wish to participate in this event should contact the chemistry department and complete the relevant documents.

All participants in the competition will be required to have completed a titration experiment and be familiar in handling the apparatus and materials that are used in this experiment.

WINNERS OF 2010 Chemistry Titration Competition

There were 24 competitors of 12 teams, from six high schools, that compete in this years Chemistry Titration competition. Students were judged on the precision and accuracy of their experimental results. The first prize for the Best Team with the highest overall score was won by Hannah Lam and Clarabelle Santos of St John’s High School. The second prize for overall team score went to Lawrence Alcairo and Marten Lai of Father Duenas Memorial School, and the third prize was won by Cody Pumper and Robert Lizama of Guam High School.

The first prize in the Best Individual Score was won by Joon Wha Park from Harvest Christian Academy and the prize for the Best in Laboratory skill was won by Cecilia Vaughan of St Thomas Catholic High School. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all the competitors. The competition was organized by the Chemistry Program with the help of the undergraduate Teaching Assistants.  

In 2009, almost all participants attended the Titration Practice Session that was run by the Chemistry Department. This event was held on February 20th, 2009 in the chemistry laboratory, room SC230. The Titration Practice session provided the students with a better knowledge on the chemical principles, experimental skills, and the calculation requirements for the March 10th Competition.

Justine Denusta and Norma Phillips of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School earned the highest overall team score and first prize at the University of Guam ’s Chemistry Titration Competition held on March 10, 2009. Norma Phillips went on to earn the highest overall individual score.

A total of 24 students participated in the competition representing seven high schools including:Notre Dame High School , Harvest Christian Academy , Father Duenas Memorial School , St Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School , George Washington High School , Guam High School , and St John’s School.

Guam High School ’s Israel Soto and Naomi Del Mundo and Father Duenas Memorial School ’s Allen Soriano and Dominick Salas tied for the second place in Team Competition category of the UOG Chemistry Titration Competition. Allen Soriano also garnered the Best Laboratory Experimental Skill trophy. A total of 24 students participated in the competition representing seven high schools including: Notre Dame High School , Harvest Christian Academy , Father Duenas Memorial School , St Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School , George Washington High School , Guam High School , and St John’s School.

 

Harvest Christian Academy ’s Christopher Cho and Joon Wha Park won third place in the team competition prize during the University of Guam ’s Chemistry Titration Competition held on March 10. A total of 24 students representing seven high schools participated in the competition. Schools include: Notre Dame High School , Harvest Christian Academy , Father Duenas Memorial School , St Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School, George Washington High School , Guam High School , and St John’s School .
