807TH MEDICAL COMMAND (DEPLOYMENT SUPPORT) 

Brigadier General Tracy L. (Artero) Smith was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps through the ROTC program at the University of Guam, where she was awarded a four-year Merit Scholarship and a two-year ROTC National Scholarship.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1987. She holds a Masters of Business Administration from Troy State University, 2002 and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the Army War College, 2007, Resident.

Her military education includes the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Officer Basic Course; AMEDD Advanced Course; Personnel Officer’s Course; Army Force Management Course; Combined Arms Services Staff School; Command and General Staff College, the Army Management Staff College’s Sustaining Base Leadership Management Program and the Army War College.

Brigadier General (BG) Smith currently serves as the Deputy Commanding General for Support, 807thMedical Command (Deployment Support). Her most recent assignment was as the Chief of Staff, Army Reserve Medical Command, Pinellas Park, FL. She was also the first Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) Commander of the 865th Combat Support Hospital, Utica, NY. She has an operations and human resource background and served in numerous leadership and staff positions. Her assignments include: Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Mobilization, Training and Readiness (G3/5/7/Readiness), Army Reserve Medical Command (AR-MEDCOM). Deputy Chief of Staff for Force Development and Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel (Deputy G-1), AR-MEDCOM; Area Coordinator, Federal Coordinating Center, National Disaster Medical System, Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, WA; Force Integration Officer, Western Region Medical Command, Ft. Lewis, WA; Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel (Deputy G-1), Medical Operations Officer, Secretary of the General Staff and Adjutant, 3d Medical Command, Atlanta, GA;  Operations Officer (S-3), Assistant Operations (S-3)/Training Officer and Personnel Officer (S-1), 1984th U.S. Army Hospital, Honolulu, HI; Aide-de-Camp and Company Commander, Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii; Chief, Officer Management, 9th Infantry Division HQ; Medical Operations Officer, 9th Infantry Division Surgeon’s Office; Executive Officer, A Co., 709th Main Support Battalion, 9th Infantry Division;  Executive Officer and Ambulance Platoon Leader, A Co., 99th Forward Support Battalion, 9th Infantry Division, Ft. Lewis, WA.

Brigadier General Smith’s awards and badges include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (w/5 oak leaf clusters); Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terror Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon; Joint Meritorious Unit Award; German Armed Forces Military Proficiency Badge; Expert Field Medic Badge. Humanitarian assistance operations and service campaigns respectively include the Montana Forest Fires, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  BG Smith also led her units for Operation Bright Star, Egypt and Task Force Kout Men, Haiti. BG Smith was also awarded the Order of Military Medical Merit.

BG Smith is married to David Scott Smith.
