UOG Men's Soccer Runs Into A BuzzSaw And Drops Match 6-0 To Isla De Ladrones FC
The University of Guam Men's Soccer Team most certainly has not been playing well since the Christmas break, with a tie and
sluggish victory in their first two matches back, but on Saturday night at the Guam
Football Association's National Training Center, the Tritons got the news, you are
no longer undefeated and you suffered only the 2nd shutout in the new UOG program's
history by losing to the Isla De Ladrones FC 6-0 which also stands as the Tritons
worse loss in two seasons as well.
The first 40 minutes of the first half was 0-0, the IDL with a roster of Guam National
Team Members had been dominate, but UOG had a few counter attacks that put some pressure
on the IDL defense, but then Isla De Ladrones found a weak link in the UOG defense
and scored two quick goals before the half and took that 2-0 lead into halftime..
The Tritons came out still playing hard to open the half, but UOG was called for a
handball in the box and IDL was awarded the penalty kick just 5 minutes into the 2nd
period and they converted the goal to go up 3-0 and UOG had their breath knocked out
and IDL scored to more goals easily in the next 15 minutes to put the match away at
5-0.
Isla De Ladrones pulled back the pressure at that point, but still scored one more
goal in the match while UOG had their best chance of the night with 4 minutes left,
but missed a wide open point blank shot only 10 yards from the net and the shutout
and worse defeat of two seasons was complete.
UOG dropped to 7-1-1 record and Isla De Ladrones FC improved to 8-0-0 in the GFA Budweiser
Premier League. The Tritons plays FC Beercelona on Wednesday, February 7 at 7:00pm
at the GFA National Training Center and will try to right ship going forward again.
