UOG Triton Athletics Announces IIAAG Girls High School Basketball All-Star Game

1/22/2018

The University of Guam’s Triton Athletics Department announced on Sunday, December 3 that the IIAAG Girls High School Basketball All-Star Game will played at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13th in the UOG Calvo Field House between two All-Star teams selected by Triton Athletics from the All-Island teams.

UOG Athletic Director Doug Palmer said: “We have committed to hosting “All-Star” games in the four sports that we host each year for the IIAAG “Island Championships” and Girls Basketball is the next Championship to come to the UOG Calvo Field House on Saturday, December 9th and we plan on holding the All-Star game on Wednesday, December 13th.

Triton Athletics hosted the IIAAG High School Girls Volleyball All-Star game a few weeks ago and will host all-star games in Boys Basketball and Boys Volleyball in the spring.

Triton Athletics split the All-Island selections into two teams by positions and split high school teammates 50-50 on teams.

Palmer added: “This selection was easier than volleyball, as there were only 26 total All-Island selections which split into equal teams of 13 each, one team gets an extra forward and one team gets an extra center. Starters for the game come from the 1st and 2nd Team All-Island players, reserves from the Honorable Mention players".

Team 1 will be coached by the Island Champion Coach and the #4 Island Coach from the Consolation Game on December 9th. Team 2 will be coached by the Island Runner-up Coach and the #3 Coach from the Consolation Game.

The teams will meet for a one hour shoot around on Tuesday afternoon/night, December 12th and game time will be 7:00pm on Wednesday, December 13th. Admission will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students/seniors. Kids 5 and under are free.

“We have learned a bit from the first All-Star game we hosted and hopefully the basketball version will be a little better, as we are adding an announcer that was missing from the first “All-Star” game,” said Palmer.

“We hope we get more fans and women basketball supporters out to this game, as the competition at the Volleyball All-Star game was strong, as the student-athletes were excited about playing in an all-star game, we are sure the basketball players will be excited as well,” Palmer stated.
