Guam and Micronesia Collection

The Guam and Micronesia Reference Collection constitutes one of the most extensive repositories of Guam and Micronesia resources in the world. Its holdings number about 40,000 volumes on Guam, Micronesia and the Pacific. Included in the collection are 800 dissertations and theses, news clippings, brochures and ephemeral material related to the geographic region of Micronesia.

The reading room is normally open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

 

Spanish Documents 

The Spanish Documents Collection, SDC, reflects the lengthy presence of Spain in Micronesia, beginning with Magellan’s arrival in 1521 and concluding with the loss of Spanish possessions in the Pacific during the Spanish-American War in 1898. All holdings of this collection are in Spanish Language and include records from the General Archives of the Indies in Seville, the Philippines National Archives in Manila, the General Archives of the Nation in Mexico, the Royal Academy of History in Madrid, the Jesuit archives in Rome and Spain, the Capuchin archives in Spain and Germany, and the U.S. Library of Congress, Manuscripts. Also, the judicial records of the Spanish administration in the Marianas are housed in this repository. Currently, finding aids are available at the Center and online.

Manuscript Collection

 

MARC’s Manuscripts Collection, MS, contains the personal papers of prominent politicians, educators, anthropologists, business people, historians and other individuals that had contributed to the region. The documents include letters, diaries, photographs, and other papers which the individuals or their descendants have donated to MARC.  In addition to these original papers, the MS Collection has copies of archival material from other repositories, such as the U.S. National Archives, and the U.S. Library of Congress.  Finding aids are available at the center and online.
