UOG CNAS STEM CONFERENCE
From Roots to Reef: Connecting Experiences in STEM

The University of Guam CNAS STEM Conference is a student-led event that 1) showcases the work of local students, 2) delves into current local matters and research on Guam, and 3) explores the many opportunities available to STEM students!
Learn about various STEM related fields, including Agriculture, Plant Sciences, Biology (Biomedical, Environmental, Marine), Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science and Technology, Engineering, Health Sciences, and more!
The conference is open to all high school students, undergraduate and graduate students, and individuals interested in learning about STEM!
The UOG CNAS STEM Conference will:
- Empower students to develop scientific communication skills.
- Provide an outlet to experience an organized scientific research conference.
- Develop spaces to engage in scientific discussion.
- Prepare younger students for networking, potential research projects, and mentors.
- Showcase the work of undergraduate and graduate students.
Now accepting abstract submissions!
- No more than 250 words, providing readers with a quick overview of your research.
- Should include:
- a hypothesis
- thesis
- methods
- results
- any implications or applications of your study.
- Must clearly state authorship, affiliations, etc.
- Individuals may not submit more than one abstract.
- Group abstracts are allowed to be submitted but not presented individually.
- Those whose abstracts are accepted must provide their own printed posters. The CNAS STEM Conference committee will provide a place to set up.
Submission Guidelines
All poster and oral presentation abstracts must be submitted through the abstract submission link. Oral presentations (graduate students only) will be accepted as PowerPoint presentations. Poster presenters (both undergraduate and graduate) will be required to provide their own printed poster. After abstract submission and acceptance, all poster and oral presentations will be scheduled.
Important dates:
- March 3, 2023: Deadline for Abstracts
- March 17, 2023: Acceptance of Abstracts
- April 7, 2023: Conference, Day 1
- April 8, 2023: Conference, Day 2
Eligibility
Criteria
Abstracts are expected to be no more than 250 words, with correct grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, i.e., with editing and proofreading prior to submission. The general criteria for abstracts are as follows.
All abstracts are expected to include the following:

Hypothesis or statement about the problem being investigated, or why the research is important.

Methods and/or controls.

Result and discussion of findings.

Conclusion, future research, and key references.

Acknowledgements of institution/organization(s).
Acceptance
- Only one poster or oral abstract can be submitted per individual. However, another individual may be listed as a co-author on another abstract.
- Students working in the same lab or on the same project must independently submit original abstracts. Identical abstracts submitted by different students will be automatically rejected.
- Group presentations are allowed; however, individuals cannot present on the topic individually.
- Approval must be obtained from all co-authors listed on the abstract. Failure to do so will result in the immediate rejection of the abstract.
- Students must obtain approval from faculty adviser(s)/research mentor(s) before submitting the abstract. Failure to do so will result in the immediate rejection of the abstract.
- Abstracts must be written by the student and reviewed by the faculty or research mentor.
