UOG Launches College Credit for Lived Experience Program
8/21/2026
The University of Guam's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) is launching the College Credit for Lived Experience (CCLE) program, an innovative initiative that recognizes learning gained outside the traditional classroom and awards academic credit toward a degree.
The program provides individuals with the opportunity to earn up to 30 college credits by demonstrating college-level knowledge and skills acquired through professional work experience, military service, industry certifications, training programs, volunteer service, community leadership, or other meaningful life experiences. Through a structured portfolio assessment process, participants can align their prior learning with course learning outcomes for faculty review and evaluation.
Designed to expand access to higher education and support degree completion, the CCLE program serves a wide range of learners, including workforce professionals seeking career advancement, military service members and veterans, community leaders, individuals with significant industry experience, and adults who previously started college but paused their education before earning a degree.
By recognizing prior learning, the program reduces barriers that often prevent working adults from returning to school, helping participants save time and tuition costs while accelerating progress toward an undergraduate degree. At the same time, students engage in a rigorous academic process that validates and strengthens their existing knowledge through faculty evaluation and reflection.
The CCLE program will be available beginning Fanuchånan (Fall) 2026. Individuals interested in pursuing a degree through the recognition of prior learning can learn more about eligibility requirements, the application process, and portfolio submission guidelines by visiting: https://www.uog.edu/class/college-credit-for-lived-experience.
