When we think about protein, many of us immediately think of beef, pork, chicken, fish, eggs, or milk. Protein is, indeed, essential to human nutrition. It provides amino acids - the building blocks our bodies need for growth, development, maintenance, and repair.

 But protein does not have to come primarily from animals. Plant foods can also provide significant amounts of protein, and increasing plant-based protein in our diets can be part of a healthier eating pattern

Among plant foods, soybeans are one of the best sources of high-quality protein.
