UOG Tritons Take MicroFriends Tournament With Perfect 6-0 Record
The University of Guam Men's Basketball Team won the MicroFriends Mini-Games Tournament on Sunday, November 23, at the UOG Calvo Field House, going 3–0 for the night and 6–0 for the tournament. The Tritons defeated Machew in the championship game 48–47 after Machew missed their last-second shot, giving UOG the title.
The Tritons opened the day with a 56–55 victory over LaGoonz in a tough double-overtime
game. Rico Taitague led UOG with 15 points. In the semifinals, UOG defeated the Guardians
51–36, with Javian Naputi scoring 16 points.
In the championship game, Machew opened a 15-point lead early, going up 20–5 before
UOG’s offense started to click. The Tritons rallied and took a 28–24 lead into halftime.
It was a back-and-forth game in the second half, with UOG hitting clutch shots late
while Machew missed their final attempt.
Championship game most valuable player Daniel Salas led the Tritons with 12 points.
No other Triton scored in double figures. Jose Ignacio led Machew with 18 points.
UOG went 3–0 in pool play. They defeated B.I.C. 56–41 on Friday night. On Saturday,
the Tritons beat LaGoonz 47–34 and finished pool play with a 54–32 win over Sugod
before entering bracket play on Sunday.
