Fuetsa Wins Super League Championship, Lady Tritons Finishes 3rd
It was another dramatic night at the UOG Calvo Field House on October 1, as Fuetsa came from behind to defeat the U17 Nationals for the championship of the Lady Triton Super League. The Lady Tritons secured third place with a strong win over BallHers.
In the championship game, the U17 Nationals brought only five players, and in the end, it would cost them the title. Both teams started hot, with offenses firing on all cylinders. Jia Peters led Fuetsa with 13 points in the opening quarter, helping her team post 30 points. The U17 Nationals had a balanced attack, with all five players scoring at least four points to put up 32 in the period.
Fuetsa took control in the second quarter, scoring 21 points with a balanced attack of their own. Four different players hit three-pointers, while U17 managed only 12 points. Fuetsa led 51-44 at halftime.
To start the third period, Fuetsa went cold from the field while the U17 Nationals got hot again, adding 24 points behind nine from Lana Quinata. Fuetsa scored just 11 points in the period.
The game took a major turn late in the quarter when Mara Del Carmen fouled out on an offensive drive, leaving the Nationals with only four players to finish the game.
The U17 Nationals entered the fourth quarter ahead 68-62 and managed to hold their lead for the first five minutes, with the four remaining players putting up a tough fight. Fuetsa changed their strategy in the final minutes, applying full-court pressure and sending an extra player down low for rebounds. Without a fifth player to match up, the U17 struggled to keep pace. Jia Peters caught fire late, scoring 12 points in the quarter as Fuetsa surged ahead to take the win, 88-85.
Peters led all scorers with 35 points, while sisters Elysia and Nicolette Perez added 14 and 13 for Fuetsa. Lana Quinata led the U17 Nationals with 29 points, while her teammates each scored between 13 and 15.
Fuetsa finished the season with a 5-1 record, getting revenge for their sole regular-season loss to the U17 Nationals, 88-86. The U17 Nationals also ended the season at 5-1.
In the third-place game, the Lady Tritons capped their best season in over three years by defeating BallHers 68-40. It was their first .500 season since finishing second to the Andersen Bombers three years ago.
The Tritons led from start to finish, taking a 17-11 lead in the first quarter and building on it in the second. BallHers went cold, scoring only three points in the period, while UOG added 13 to take a 30-14 halftime lead.
