The University of Guam is hosting the upcoming Tritons Night of the Arts on Thursday, April 9 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Student Success Center on the UOG campus.

This special event highlighting the creative and artistic talents of UOG’s students is sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS).

Performances and Exhibits

The Tritons Night of the Arts will feature a lineup of performances and exhibits throughout the evening. Live music will be provided by current and former Music and Theatre majors, while an art exhibit will showcase more than two dozen works by undergraduate Art students.
Several short films produced by Communication students will be screened beginning at 5:00 pm, followed by a short play presented by senior Theatre majors at 6:00 pm. The evening will culminate in a poetry slam at 6:30 pm, featuring undergraduate and graduate students sharing their original work and competing for cash prizes.

Hands-On Activities

Various hands-on activities will be available for guests of the event to enjoy.

Several CLASS programs will host informational booths, offering prospective majors the chance to learn more about the academic programs. Student-owned small businesses and student organizations will be selling a variety of handmade crafts and art items, providing an opportunity to support local talent. Guests can also vote for their favorite piece in the art exhibit, helping determine the People’s Choice award winner.

An interactive creative space will invite guests to explore their own artistic talents, whether by composing a poem on the magnetic poetry wall, painting a keepsake ornament to take home, or observing weaving and mwarmwar demonstrations by students from the CHamoru Studies program and the Yap Student Organization.

A major feature of the interactive creative space is the community art collaboration, where guests can help paint one of two large panels outlined with designs created by the fine arts student organization, Creative Alliance of Tritons.

A Celebration of the Arts

The Tritons Night of the Arts aims to highlight the various arts in education while providing a platform for students to share their work with the community.

“We are excited to bring together the community for an evening celebrating creativity in all its forms,” said Dr. Sharleen Santos-Bamba, Senior Vice President and Provost. “This event reflects our commitment to fostering artistic appreciation and growth, especially among our students.”

The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
