University of Guam President Anita Borja Enriquez has completed six years of service as a commissioner on the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), concluding her second and final three-year term on June 30.

Enriquez was first elected to the commission in 2020 and was reappointed in 2023. During her tenure, she represented the Pacific Basin and served on several commission committees, including as vice chair of the International Accreditation Committee and as a member of the Accreditation Policy & Procedure Committee.

Recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, WSCUC evaluates colleges and universities to ensure they meet rigorous standards for academic quality, institutional effectiveness, and sustainability. Serving primarily institutions in California, Hawaii, and the Pacific, WSCUC also accredits select national and international universities. Commissioners are elected by the presidents of WSCUC-accredited institutions and are responsible for establishing accreditation policy, reviewing institutional performance, and making accreditation decisions.

“It has been an honor to serve alongside distinguished higher education leaders who are deeply committed to quality, accountability, and student success,” Enriquez said. “Representing the Pacific region on the commission has been both a privilege and a responsibility. The experience has strengthened my appreciation for the important role accreditation plays in fostering continuous improvement and ensuring that our institutions remain responsive to the needs of the communities we serve.”

The commission recently welcomed a new class of commissioners whose expertise spans higher education leadership, finance, academic affairs, and public service, continuing WSCUC’s mission to promote institutional quality and educational effectiveness across the region and to advance continuous institutional improvement and accountability in higher education.
