When we think about improving our villages, we often focus on what we don’t have - the programs, funding or facilities we wish we could get from outside. But sometimes, the fastest way to make improvements in the community is to look closely at what we already have and build from there.
At the UOG Land Grant Extension Service, we have a community development team that
helps community leaders and organizations take stock of their “assets.” These assets
aren’t just buildings or money. They include people’s skills, local traditions, cultural
sites, natural spaces, community organizations, and even the way neighbors look out
for one another. In short - the things that make each village unique.
