UOG Horizons: Knowledge For Life - Ayuda i Taotao ni’ Munisisita: supporting disability-inclusive health on Guam
Fourteen-year-old Gabriel “Gabby” Donato lives with cerebral palsy. He is a friendly teenager who enjoys dancing and listening to gospel and CHamoru music. His parents, Jonette and Samuel, do their best to ensure he has what he needs.
“Although we don’t often see many families bringing individuals with disabilities into the community, we try to be proactive about taking Gabby out,” Mr. Donato shared. They bring him to clinics, swimming facilities, church and hospitals - doing everything they can to meet his needs. While Gabby’s pediatrician is proactive and supportive, barriers still prevent him from receiving the full care he deserves.
