UOG Art Exhibit Celebrates a Decade of Printmaking
The Island Voices opens Oct. 23 at Isla Center for the Arts

The University of Guam Isla Center for the Arts will open a new exhibition, The Island Voices: UOG Alumni & Student Printmaking Exhibition & Paper Boats Project Portfolio, with a public reception on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Isla Center, located at #15 Dean’s Circle on the UOG campus. The exhibit will remain on display through Nov. 28, 2025.

Curated by UOG Professor of Art Dr. Irena Keckes, Island Voices highlights more than a decade of creative output from UOG’s FA 203 Printmaking Studio classes. Featuring over 180 works by students, alumni, and faculty, the exhibition includes linocut, woodcut, screen print, intaglio, lithography, monotype prints, and monodrawings.

“The exhibition summarizes the accomplishments achieved through printmaking classes in the FA 203 studio over ten years,” said Keckes.
Faculty works include a woodcut triptych by Professor of Art Ric Castro and a monotype by Emeritus Professor of Art Lewis Rifkowitz. The show also includes two video works: Beads, a collaboration between Keckes and Katarzyna Zimna of the Femigraphic Print Collective, and Discover, a creative video by Professor of Communication Dr. Raymond Anderson.

The second half of the exhibit, Paper Boats Project Portfolio, features contributions from artists across North America, Europe, China, and Guam. Presented as unfolded sheets, the artists explore the theme of water through a variety of printmaking methods. The project was initiated by Los Angeles Printmakers and artist Mary Sherwood Brock and has been exhibited previously in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Italy, and Los Angeles.
