KFC Bombers Defeat Guam Nationals to Win Triton League in Double Overtime
The KFC Bombers and Guam Nationals played twice during the Fall 2025 Triton Men’s Basketball League season, and both matchups went to double overtime on Friday, December 12. This time, the KFC Bombers captured the TMBL championship with a 105–100 victory.
The Guam Nationals, playing with only seven players, gave it their all. However, the
bigger and stronger KFC Bombers took advantage of the Nationals’ lack of depth and
height. KFC scored consistently inside and wore down the Nationals as the game progressed.
Neither team shot well early, as the Nationals led 20–17 after the first quarter and
39–32 at halftime. The third quarter proved to be key for the Bombers. Kierhon Wiley
took advantage of the absence of Mark Johnson, who was with the U17 National Team
as an assistant coach. Wiley scored 15 points in the quarter and dominated the rebounds
under the basket. His performance pulled the Bombers within one point entering the
fourth quarter. The Nationals held a slim 64–63 lead.
With KFC’s 13-player roster, the bigger and stronger Bombers began to take their toll
in the fourth quarter. The Nationals looked fatigued, and several players were visibly
limping by the final period.
The game featured the usual chirping between teams and arguments with officials during
the second and third quarters, resulting in several technical fouls. However, with
the game close entering the fourth quarter, both teams settled down and played focused
basketball through the end.
The Nationals continued to fight hard, and the teams were tied 82–82 at the end of
regulation. The score remained tied at 88–88 after the first overtime. During the
second overtime, the KFC Bombers pulled ahead by five points. The Guam Nationals were
unable to recover, and the game ended in a 105–100 victory for KFC.
The KFC Bombers were led by league MVP Charles Wingate with 23 points and Kierhon
Wiley with 21. Joe Blas led all scorers with a game-high 39 points for the Nationals,
shooting 18-of-24 from the free-throw line. Joey Delia added 22 points for Guam.
The KFC Bombers finished the season with a 9–1 record, earning revenge for their lone
regular-season loss, a 120–117 double-overtime defeat to the Guam Nationals. The Nationals
also ended the season with a 9–1 record.
This marked the first championship for the KFC Bombers since former coaching legend
Coach Gerrand Barnes led the team. The loss snapped a streak of four consecutive championships
won by the Guam Nationals or the Nationals group under different sponsor names.
The Triton Men’s Basketball League will return for its spring season in March 2026,
with hopes of fielding another eight-team league.
The league also named a 15-member All-League Team and selected a Most Valuable Player.
