Both Team Austability and the KFC Bombers won their opening games in the Triton’s Men’s Basketball League playoffs on Monday night, April 21, with ease at the UOG Calvo Field House. Team Austability showcased great offense, putting up 138 points on the night, while KFC Bombers relied on more defense, defeating the MicroFriends 91-63.

The Bombers opened the night with a bit of struggle in scoring points themselves, as they dominated the boards but missed several shots in the paint to start the contest against the MicroFriends. However, MicroFriends couldn’t score either, allowing the KFC team to take the lead after the first quarter, 23-14. The second quarter showed a similar pattern, with the Bombers winning the period 24 to 19 and leading the halftime 47-33.

The MicroFriends never mounted a second-half run against the Bombers, as their outside game was missing throughout the contest. The Bombers took full advantage and went on to win the game 92-64.

Chris Townsend and Isaac Tamez led the Bombers with 15 and 14 points. Vander Valentino led the MicroFriends with 21 points.

The KFC Bombers are now 7-2 in the league, while the MicroFriends fell to 5-4.

In the nightcap, Team Austability had no problems scoring points, as they jumped out to a big lead early, scoring 41 points in the first quarter behind 13 points each from Kirsten Guzman and Ben Borja, who combined to make five three-pointers in the first 10 minutes of the game, leading Fairzesh 41-24 after the first quarter.

Ben Borja scored five three-pointers himself, on the way to 19 points in the second quarter, giving Team Austability a 42-point lead at 82-40 at halftime over Fairzesh.

Team Austability cruised in the second half, leading 107-62 after three quarters and winning the game 138-89.

Ben Borja led Team Austability with 44 points on the night, while DJ Osborn and Kirstan Guzman scored 27 and 26, respectively, for Austability. BJ Mori scored 21 for Fairzesh.

Team Austability is now 8-1 on the season, while Fairzesh fell to 3-7.
