Slow Start Dooms UOG Tritons Against MicroFriends, KFC Bombers Beat Fairzesh
The University of Guam Men's Basketball Team got off to a slow start on Wednesday night, April 9, at the UOG Calvo, resulting in a loss to the MicroFriends, 76-62. Meanwhile, the KFC Bombers pulled away in the second half to secure a 93-78 victory over Fairzesh in their Triton Men's Basketball League.
In the nightcap, the Tritons scored only 11 points in the first quarter, while the MicroFriends surged ahead with 24 points to establish an early lead that they never relinquished. The MicroFriends outscored the Tritons 17-13 in the second period, leading to a 41-24 at halftime.
Although the Tritons outscored the MicroFriends 17-16 in the third period, they still trailed 57-42. In a spirited fourth-quarter rally, the Tritons cut the MicroFriends' lead to just 6 points at 66-60, but they couldn't further, ultimately losing the gap at 74-62.
Johnny Ignacio led the MicroFriends with 18 points, while Rico Taitague was the top scorer for UOG with 16 points.
The MicroFriends now hold a 4-2 record in the Triton Men's Basketball League, whereas UOG remains winless at 0-7.
In the opener, the KFC Bombers established a lead in each quarter, with Fairzesh consistently battling back until the third period. The Bombers quickly took control in the first quarter, but Fairzesh railed toward the end, trailing by 3 points at the quarter's end, 24-21.
A similar pattern unfolded in the second period, with the Bombers extending their lead by 12-15 points early on, only for Fairzesh to close the gap once more, trailing 47-44 at halftime.
However, the script changed in the third period, as the Bombers regained momentum and Fairzesh couldn't respond, resulting in a 72-57 lead for the KFC team by the period's end. They maintained their dominance to secure a 93-78 victory.
Taariq Harvey led the KFC Bombers with 18 points, while Rodzian Pilias scored 21 for Fairzesh.
The KFC Bombers are now 5-1record in the league, while Fairzesh fell to 2-5.
