Lady Tritons Drop Game to Stingrays Gray, MVP Lady Stars Open Season with a Win
The Stingrays Gray started the game with only five players, but an injury to Shari Howze left them with just four players for the rest of the game. With former and current national team members on their squad, the Stingrays still held their own.
The Tritons started the game slowly, scoring only six points—all by Amanda Uncangco—in the first 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the Stingrays put up 20 points in the first quarter. The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with the Lady Tritons doubling their output to 12 points, but the Stingrays added 18 more to lead 38-18 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lady Tritons changed their strategy to take advantage of the Stingrays’ reduced lineup. They left a player on their own end for fast-break opportunities and made a strong comeback, cutting the Stingrays’ lead to just four points midway through the quarter. However, the Stingrays adjusted and rebuilt their lead to 58-43 heading into the fourth.
Maria Duenas got hot in the final quarter for the Lady Tritons, scoring 13 points and closing the gap. Ariah Arceo responded with 10 points for the Stingrays, helping them secure the 72-62 victory.
Arceo led all scorers with 35 points, while Duenas finished with 26 for the Lady Tritons. Both teams now hold a 1-1 record in the Super League.
In the opening game, the BallHers and MVP Lady Stars got off to a slow start, scoring only 12 points each in the first quarter. In the second, the MVPs applied defensive pressure and used their speed in transition to take a 35-25 lead at halftime.
The BallHers adjusted in the third quarter, slowing down the Lady Stars and outscoring them 20-16 in the 10-minute period. This cut the lead to 51-47 heading into the fourth. However, the MVPs maintained their advantage in the final quarter to secure a 66-55 win.
Sazzy Quintanilla led the Lady Stars with 24 points, while Anslie Sarselejo scored 18 for the BallHers. This was the first game for both teams, with the Stars now 1-0 in the league and the BallHers 0-1.
