The University of Guam women's basketball team ended a seven-game losing streak in the Lady Triton Super League with a thrilling 65-64 overtime victory against the Stingrays Black team on Monday night, January 27. Meanwhile, in a rematch of the fall Super League championship game, Fuetsa routed the Stingrays Gray 72-51 in the league opener for the spring season.

The Lady Tritons went winless in the fall Super League with a 0-7 record but came out on top Monday night in the second game of the evening's doubleheader. Stingrays Black is a new team in the Super League and also the youngest team in the league.

The game started out close, with both offenses struggling to produce points. The Stingrays took an early 7-2 lead in the first minutes, but UOG responded in the second half of the first quarter, edging ahead to lead 11-10 at the end of the period. The teams remained evenly matched in the second quarter, heading into halftime tied at 25-25.

The Lady Tritons applied defensive pressure in the third quarter, making it difficult for the Stingrays Black to advance the ball up the court. UOG built a lead of up to 10 points during the quarter, with Maria Duenas scoring 11 points and Kai Quidachay adding 8 points, capitalizing on several steals and layups. The Lady Tritons entered the fourth period with a 48-41 lead.

The Stingrays mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, tying the game and forcing overtime. In the extra period, both teams struggled offensively, but A'Ani Shiroha sank a free throw to give the Stingrays Black a one-point lead with less than 10 seconds remaining. After a UOG timeout, Maria Duenas made a twisting shot near the basket, scoring the game-winning points for UOG with just one second left on the clock.

The game was decided at the free-throw line, with UOG making 10 of 20 attempts, while the Stingrays Black managed to hit only 2 of 16.

Maria Duenas led UOG with 23 points, while Kai Quidachay added 19. A'Ani Shiroma, Suri Sanchez, and Ave Santos all scored 16 points each for the Stingrays Black.

The opening game was a match-up of the championship game of the fall semester in which the Stingrays won 87-69 over Fuetsa. This time, however, the result was different, as Fuetsa cruised to an easy 72-51 victory over the Stingrays Gray team.

The Stingrays struggled offensively throughout the game, managing only 5 points in the first quarter as Fuetsa led 19-5 after the first ten minutes. The Stingrays scored a few more points in the second quarter, but Fuetsa maintained their lead, heading into halftime up 35-22.

The second half saw more of the same, as Fuetsa scored another 20 points in the third quarter, while the Stingrays managed only 15, falling further behind at 55-37 heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Leesey Perez of Fuetsa hit three three-pointers, helping boost Fuetsa to a 72-51 victory.

Fuetsa won the game from the 3-point arc, hitting 10 three-pointers on the night while limiting the Stingrays to only two three-pointers.

Leesey Perez led Fuetsa with 20 points, including 6 three-pointers, while Mia San Nicolas and Joy Pangilinan added 15 and 14 points, respectively. Maddan Ada scored 15 for the Stingrays.

Fuetsa and the Lady Tritons are both 1-0, while the Stingrays Gray and Black teams are 0-1.
