Dr. Michelle M.S. Santos, an associate professor of education at the University of Guam’s School of Education, was recently named to serve on the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) Accreditation Commission.
AAQEP offers accreditation services and support to quality educator preparation providers. The organization recognizes and promotes education programs that strengthen the education profession’s capacity to equitably serve all students, schools, and communities.
Santos also serves as the chair of the Professional Teacher Preparation division and chair of the Master of Arts in Teaching program and the undergraduate secondary education program at UOG. Her research focus has centered on literacy, assessment, and culturally responsive practices.
Santos has over two decades of assessment and accreditation experience and has also served as a secondary educator and administrator in GDOE and an associate dean and dean at GCC. Santos also serves on the island’s Commission for Educator Certification, a position appointed by the Governor and approved by the legislature. Santos has served as a participant and lead on multiple Quality Review Teams since 2020.
“I am honored to represent the University of Guam and our region on the AAQEP Accreditation Commission,” said Santos. “I look forward to contributing to the important work of promoting and ensuring quality in educator preparation, and I’m excited to collaborate with my fellow commissioners and the broader AAQEP community to continue advancing excellence in education.”
Santos’ three-year appointment will begin on January 1, 2025, until December 31, 2028. The commission is expanding from its current 27 commissioners to accommodate an increase of growing AAQEP membership.
The UOG School of Education earned AAQEP accreditation in 2020.

Founded in 2017, the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) is a membership association and quality assurance agency that offers accreditation services and formative support to all types of educator preparation providers. AAQEP is nationally recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Over 200 educator preparation providers in 35 states and territories and 3 foreign countries are AAQEP members.
