UOG Tritons Lose To The Outcasts In Golden Hoops Tournament
In what was little more than an intersquad game between the UOG Tritons and the Outcasts, the actual Triton team lost to the Outcasts on Sunday afternoon, December 22, 78-66, in the UOG Calvo Field House. The Outcasts' roster included three current UOG Tritons playing with the team during the Christmas break, along with five former Tritons.
The Outcasts dominated the first half, outscoring the Tritons 38-23 in the opening 20 minutes. Their balanced scoring attack was fueled by current and former Tritons, who contributed 25 of the team's 38 points.
In the second half, the Tritons attempted a comeback, cutting the lead down to 8 points on two occasions, powered by 15 points from Michael Quinata and 13 from Rico Taitague. However, it was not enough, as Joey Delia scored 13 points in the half for the Outcasts, helping secure their 78-66 victory.
Joey Delia led the Outcasts with 17 points, while Michael Quinata scored 17 for the Tritons, with Coach Argie Flores adding 16 for UOG.
The Tritons are now 1-3 in the tournament and play the Imperials tonight at 7:30 pm. The Outcasts are 2-3 in the Golden Hoops tournament and play again on Christmas Eve against the Mobil BrotherHoops at 5:30 pm.
The Golden Hoops Tournament continues through December 29, culminating in the championship games for the men's and co-ed divisions.
