The University of Guam Triton Men's Volleyball Team won the regular season championship of the Triton Men's Volleyball League last night in the UOG Calvo Field House with a 3-1 victory over the defending league champions, U-Fly. And Umitde defeated Team Elevate to finish the regular season matches for the fall season with a 3-2 victory in the night cap.

In the opener, the Tritons came out and took it to U-Fly, winning the first set 25-18 after moving to a 4-5 point lead about half-way through the set. U-Fly did play better in the 2nd set, but the same thing occurred, after UOG took a 3-4 point lead later in the set, and never gave up the lead to win the 2nd set 25-20.

But U-Fly came out strong in the 3rd set, beating UOG 25-16 and giving the Tritons their first set loss for season. But UOG came back in the 4th set to win 25-21 and the match 3-1.

The Tritons finished the regular season with a 5-0 record while U-Fly fell to 4-1. UOG will be the #1 seed for the playoffs while U-Fly will be the #2 Seed. Both teams will get a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

In the nightcap, Umitde got its first win of the season with a hard fought 5 set match against Team Elevate.

But Team Elevate won the first set, coming out with 25-20 win the open the match. But Umitde came right back and won the next two sets 25-19 and 25-18. Team Elevate then won the 4th set, 25-20 to force the 5th set to be played to 15 points.

But the 5th set was all Umitde, who won the match with a 15-9 win in the final set.

Umitde is 1-4 on the season while Team Elevate is 0-5. Umitde is the 5th Seed for the playoffs while Team Elevate is #6 Seed.

Playoffs begin Thursday, October 3 with the following matches:

  • 6:30pm - #4 Seed Southern Sutterez Vs. #5 Seed Umitde (Game 1)
  • 8:15pm - #3 Seed Bombers Vs. #6 Seed Team Elevate (Game 2)

The semi-finals will be played on Wednesday, October 9:

Wednesday, October 9

  • 6:30pm - #2 Seed U-Fly Vs. Winner of Game 2
  • 8:15pm - #1 Seed UOG Tritons Vs. Winner of Game 1

Championship/3rd Place Matches are played on Sunday, October 13.
