The University of Guam is proud to announce the launch of the Special Education Certification Program, a collaborative initiative with the Guam Department of Education. This program aims to address the critical need for qualified special education professionals on the island, ensuring that students with diverse learning needs receive the support and education they deserve.
Discussions for this program began over a year ago between UOG's School of Education (SOE), the UOG Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (CEDDERS), and GDOE's Special Education division. Despite a yearlong pause following the initial discussions, SOE remained prepared and committed throughout the process.
"We are excited to see the program finally come to fruition," said Dr. Alicia Aguon, Dean of the UOG School of Education.
Leading this much-anticipated certification program is Dr. Catherine Cardenas, who holds a Ph.D. in Special Education from Northcentral University.
"Her expertise and dedication are instrumental in delivering a high-quality program designed to support and address critical needs in special education," said Augon.
