The open house will feature a tour of the CIS Natural Resources plant nursery, showcasing various endangered and endemic plant species.

Visitors will learn about these fascinating plants, the CIS team's conservation efforts and why it is important to protect these endangered species.

“We are looking forward to welcoming students, and other community members into our nursery for this special day,” said UOG CIS Associate Director for Natural Resources Else Demeulenaere.  “This will be a great opportunity for the people of Guam to see plants they may not see abundantly in the wild and learn how we can preserve them.”

Attendees can also chat with Project Associate Vince Fabian, as well as other CIS biologists and conservation technicians about their work and explore career opportunities in island conservation research, particularly within terrestrial ecosystems.

UOG CIS Director Austin Shelton says that while the conservation work continues throughout the year, having a day to shine more light on the endangered species of Guam can only help the efforts of the center.

“The hardworking team from CIS is out in the jungles and the community all year long,” added Shelton. “This is one important area they are working on, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to see it.”

The tours are open to the public and are being conducted at House 32 of Dean Circle at the University of Guam.
