Tritons Win One, Forfeit One in Golden Hoops Tournament

Christmas Eve was a mixed night for the Tritons. They won their first game of the night, defeating the Imperials 67-65. However, they forfeited their second game to the Inalåjan Hawks due to a lack of available players.

In the first game, the Tritons had only six players but managed to secure a close win over the Imperials. UOG relied on the hot hand of their coach, Argie Flores, who scored 17 points in the first half. The Tritons led 34-29 at halftime.

The Imperials made a comeback in the second half, led by 13 points from Dave Sardona and 9 points from Jon Egisaban. They countered the 15 points scored by Argie Flores in the second half. With the game tied and just one second left, a foul on the Imperials sent Tyler Concepcion to the free-throw line with two shots. He made both shots, securing a 67-65 victory for the Tritons.

Coach Argie Flores scored 32 points for UOG, Michael Quinata contributed 12 points, and Tyler Concepcion added 10 for the Tritons. For the Imperials, Dave Sardona finished with 24 points, and Jon Egisaban scored 15.

UOG went to 3-3 in the tournament with the win, and the Imperials fell to 1-5.

UOG had several players leave after the first game, leaving them with not enough players to compete in their second game. As a result, they forfeited to the Inalåjan Hawks, ending their round-robin play with a 3-4 record for the tournament. UOG will begin bracket play on Friday night.

The last day of round-robin play is Thursday night, and the playoff pairings will be announced thereafter. The tournament will run through Sunday afternoon.
