The Triton Athletics and Field House department of the University of Guam gave 16 student-athletes scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $500 from a $10,000 donation to the program from World Theater Productions and Guam Philharmonic Foundation from their production of the Lion King, Jr. The event was held in the Lecture Hall at UOG on Friday night, October 11 and featured part of the cast of the Lion King, Jr.

Dr. Sharleen Santos-Bamba, the Senior Vice-President and Provost of UOG, gave a UOG welcome to the student-athletes, parents, coaches and members of World Theater Productions and Guam Philharmonic Foundation in attendance at the event. Jenei Aguon of the UOG Endowment Foundation also gave a talk to gathered group about the importance of scholarships and the benefits they provide to students. 

Then Mervin Tamayo, the Executive Director, of the Guam Philharmonic Foundation gave a speech about the importance of theater and the arts and how athletics and the arts are much alike to young people. Margarita Dencil of World Theater Productions then came up to the stage and introduced the members of the cast at the event from the Lion King, Jr. production to the audience.

Then Dr. Sharleen Santos-Bamba presented both World Theater Productions and the Guam Philharmonic Foundation with a Certificate of Honor to the groups for their donation to University of Guam and Triton Athletics. 

Then the UOG student-athletes were given their scholarships with representatives of WTP and GPF on stage along with cast members of the Lion King, Jr. productions.
