Triton Athletics Announces Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024
The University of Guam Triton Athletics and Field House Department has announced the Class of 2024 for their Athletic Hall of Fame. The Class is a more modern version of the Hall, made up of individuals who played or worked for UOG since the new athletic department started in 2016. The class has a soccer feel to it with three soccer individuals being added to the Hall with one coach and two players being named UOG Hall of Famers plus two important support personnel are being added to the Class.
Leading the way for the Hall of Fame is Coach Roderick (Rod) Hidalgo who was the men’s and women’s soccer coach from restarting the programs in 2016 until giving up the programs in the early 2020s. He won two Guam Football Association’s D2 championships with the women’s team plus a runner-up in the Women’s Amateur League and won a men’s Amateur Championship as well. Many of his players won GFA individual awards as well to include the Golden Boot award.
Two soccer players are being added to the Class of 2024, as Shaeina (Shae) Torres is being added for women’s soccer and Dylan Naputi for men’s soccer. Both started to play for UOG in 2016, and both were named UOG Student-Athlete of the Year. Shae Torres was the first Student-Athlete of the Year for UOG and was named Most Valuable Player for women’s soccer in 2017 at the first Student-Athlete Awards Reception.
Dylan Naputi was the 2nd Student-Athlete of the Year award winner, and he was named MVP for men’s soccer in 2018. Dylan also coach the UOG men’s team and was co-coach with his brother Xavier, to win the Amateur League championship in 2023.
Also joining the Class of 2024 is Victor Consaga, the UOG Sports Photographer for the last 9 years; he joined the athletic staff in the fall of 2016 and has taken pictures of student-athletes every year since at their games and other events. He also has taken pictures of major events in Triton Athletics, to include the Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony, Student-Athlete Awards Reception and Champions of Triton Athletics that feature his pictures of student-athletes on the wall of the middle entry to the field house and has his name posted with the photos.
And the last person joining the Athletic Hall of Fame is Martin Estabillo, the retiring Administrative Coordinator for Triton Athletics, who has handled the administration of the department as well as handled the coordination of many events such as annual Athletic Hall of Fame Reception, the Student-Athlete Awards Reception, the World Theater Productions Scholarship program, he developed the Triton Athletics Wall of Fame and Athletic Hall of Fame Conference Room in the UOG Calvo Field House and has handled concessions for many major events at the field house to include graduations and many of the major athletic events to include IIAAG Championships and other events in the UOG Calvo Field House.
The UOG Athletic Hall of Fame Reception is on October 19, 2024, at noon; to be followed by UOG Basketball Hall of Fame game at 2:30pm; inductions will be at half-time of the game for the five individuals.
