Team Atypical Captures Triton Men's Basketball League Championship with Win Over KFC Bombers
Team Atypical got off to a slow start on Tuesday night at the UOG Calvo Field House but finished strong to capture the title in the Triton Men's Basketball League with a 93-78 victory over the KFC Bombers.
Neither team was making many outside shots early in the game. The Bombers took advantage of their inside game to take a 22-18 lead after the first quarter, with six players scoring for KFC in the first quarter. Joe Blas kept Team Atypical within reach by scoring 12 points in the first period, including his only two three-pointers of the game.
In the 2nd quarter, the Bombers continued to spread the ball around, with seven players contributing to the scoring. Ben Borja took over for Joe Blas during the period, scoring 12 points for Atypical. The game was a close 41-40 affair, with the KFC Bombers leading.
In the third period, Atypical started to warm up their shooting and spread the ball around. AJ Grape led Atypical with 9 points, including two three-pointers. The Bombers managed to keep pace with Team Atypical and trailed 68-65 heading into the 4th quarter.
In the 4th period, KFC's scoring dried up, managing only 13 points during the final period. Meanwhile, Atypical scored 23 points in the last 10 minutes, led by the "Big Three" of the team, Joe Blas (9 points), Ben Borja (6 points) and Mark Johnson (6 points) and went on to win the game 93-78.
Joe Blas led Team Atypical with 35 points, while Ben Borja added 24 and AJ Grape 15. Tezz Williams scored 21 points for the Bombers, with Carrington Simpson adding 14.
Team Atypical finished the season with a 7-2 record, while the Bombers ended with an 8-3 record.

The Triton Men's Basketball League will return for its spring season of 2025 in mid-March, with a 6-8 team league.
