Pre-vet and wildlife courses from University of Florida available to UOG, GCC, and NMC students
The USDA-funded NextGen COMPASS program at the University of Guam announces new course opportunities for University of Guam, Guam Community College, and Northern Marianas College students interested in wildlife biology and pre-veterinary careers.
In the Spring/Fañomnåkan 2025 semester, students at UOG, GCC, and NMC who have completed Intro to Biology can enroll in a number of online courses being offered by the University of Florida. The courses will count as credit toward their degree and will enhance students' resumes for federal positions, in particular. All course fees will be covered.
Courses available for the semester include:
A hybrid online and field course -- Management of Wildlife Invasions, taught by Drs. Steve Johnson and Melissa Miller -- will be offered in Summer 2025, focusing on the ecology of introduced and invasive wildlife species and comparing invasive vertebrate management in Guam, Hawaii, and Florida. The 5-credit course is being offered solely for UOG, GCC, and NMC undergraduate students, all expenses covered. It will take place online for two weeks followed by on-site field work in Hawaii and Florida. Students should be able to swim or should be comfortable in the water.
