Northern Construction, KFC Bombers, Team Atypical, and UOG Tritons Secure Wins in Day 4 and 5 of Triton Men's Basketball League
Team Northern Construction powered past the MicroFriends with a 102-83 victory in the night's opening game. The MicroFriends held a narrow 23-21 lead at the end of the first quarter, fueled by solid shooting from Ken Brozo, Tommy Auputiw, and Vander Valentino, each hitting at least one 3-pointer. However, the MicroFriends' defense unraveled in the second quarter, committing seven fouls, which allowed Northern Construction to seize the advantage and head into halftime up 53-46. Northern Construction maintained control throughout the third quarter and, despite a late push from the MicroFriends—including three 3-pointers and a 3-point free throw in the final period—their efforts fell short. With a nearly 20-point cushion, Northern Construction cruised to the win, closing out the game with confidence.
It was a back-and-forth battle to start the game between the UOG Tritons and the Andersen Bombers, with the Bombers holding a slim 25-20 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the Tritons' struggles with turnovers in the second quarter proved costly, as the Bombers capitalized with multiple fast-break opportunities, pushing their lead to 50-24 by halftime. The Tritons came out of the break with renewed defensive intensity, launching a 10-0 run to trim the deficit. Despite their efforts, the damage from the second quarter was too much to overcome. The Bombers kept their foot on the gas and sealed a dominant 92-66 victory over the Tritons.
In a thrilling matchup, Team Atypical edged out Northern Construction with a final score of 111-98. The game was tight early on, with Northern Construction holding a slim 28-26 lead after the first quarter. However, Team Atypical's offensive firepower started to shine in the second quarter. Ben Borja was perfect from the free-throw line, making all six of his attempts and helping his team edge ahead 54-53 at halftime. The third quarter proved to be a pivotal one for Team Atypical, as Raven Pascual erupted for three 3-point shots, while teammates James Stake, Mark Johnson, and AJ Grape each added a three-pointer of their own, pushing the lead to 80-72, heading into the final quarter. Northern Construction struggled to contain Team Atypical's shooting, and their 28 team fouls throughout the game didn't help, giving Team Atypical multiple opportunities at the line. In the end, Team Atypical's offense, led by their sharpshooters and aggressive play, was too much to overcome as they sealed the 111-98 victory.
It was a slow start for both teams, with the first quarter ending in a 15-15 tie. The UOG Tritons picked up the pace in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers by Fair Zesh to build an 11-point lead heading into halftime. However, Fair Zesh came out strong in the second half, mounting a comeback to tie the game and even take a one-point lead. The fourth quarter saw both teams exchanging three-pointers, but Fair Zesh continued to apply relentless pressure on the Tritons, converting easy buckets off their turnovers. Despite a valiant effort from the Tritons, it wasn't enough to overcome the damage, and Fair Zesh held on for the 76-68 victory.
Team Atypical is undefeated with a 4-0 record, followed by Northern Construction at 3-1, and the KFC Bombers at 2-1. MicroFriends and Fair Zesh both have a 1-2 record, while the UOG Tritons are still searching for a win with a 0-5 record.
