Northern Construction Defeats Tritons To Advance In Playoffs, MicroFriends Beat Fair Zesh
Northern Construction beat the UOG Tritons 93-82 in the first round of the Triton Men's Basketball League playoffs on Tuesday night in the UOG Calvo Field House, while the MicroFriends defeated Fair Zesh 93-85 to advance.
The Tritons played well in the first half, only trailing the bigger Northern Construction team 22-16 after the first quarter and 54-43 at halftime. In the third period, Northern Construction made their move to put UOG away, outscoring the Tritons 26-15. They took control of the game with an 80-58 lead and cruised to a 93-82 victory.
Michael Quinata led UOG with 19 points, and Kirstan Guzman added 17 for the Tritons.
Northern Construction moved to 5-1 on the season, and UOG fell to 0-6 in the Triton League.
In the first game on the night, the MicroFriends returned in the 2nd half to beat Fair Zesh 93-85. Fair Zesh led 21-16 after the first quarter, and the MicroFriends trailed 46-38 at halftime. It was in the third period that the "Friends" got their offense going, scoring 30 points and taking a 68-62 lead after 30 minutes of play.
Fair Zesh tried to rally in the 4th period but couldn't get any closer than 2 points and lost the game, 93-85.
Jose Ignacio led MicroFriends with 25 points, and Vander Valentino scored 19. EJ More led all scorers with 32 for Fair Zesh.
The MicroFriends are now 3-3 in the Triton League, while Fair Zesh fell to 1-5.
