In the news: Mother, artist, library technician: Dorathina Herrero bears her soul in latest solo exhibit
In a section of the Guam Museum, a large horizontal canvas depicts a giant black cat soaring towards the moon while a woman dressed in white clings to its body.
The moon’s facial expression invites one to interpret how it feels at the sight of the feline and lady. The landscape around the subjects appears shadowy and surreal, while bright yellow butterflies and white mushrooms add some airiness.
The imagery comes from the vivid imagination of local artist Dorathina Herrero, and on Dec. 7, the public was invited to examine her oil painting entitled “A Goodbye Dream” along with other works on display in her solo exhibit.
