Re: Condolence – Dr. Jason Biggs
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Dr. Jason Stanley Biggs on December 11, 2024, at the age of 50.
An alumnus of UOG, Dr. Biggs earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1997 and his Master’s in Biology in 2000. He held several roles as a student including Extension Assistant, Undergraduate Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and Graduate Research Assistant at the Marine Lab. After earning his Ph.D. in Pharmacology & Toxicology from the University of Utah, Dr. Biggs returned to UOG joining the Marine Lab faculty as an Assistant Professor of Molecular Ecology in 2008. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013 and received tenure in 2014.
His research is focused on understanding the ecological, physiological, and toxicological fates of natural and man-made chemicals in marine environments, what mechanisms allow marine organisms to survive in extreme environments brought on by climate variability, and the discovery of bioactive compounds from marine organisms.
In 2021, Dr. Biggs joined the Guam Department of Agriculture as the Assistant Chief of the Division of Aquatic & Wildlife Resources.
Dr. Biggs is the husband of Dr. Laura A.F. Biggs, Associate Professor of Biology at the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, and the son of Joel Biggs, who served as the Director of Planning, Evaluation and Research at CALS (now CNAS) before retiring in October 2002.
An announcement on memorial services will be made at a later date.
Please join me in offering our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Biggs family and keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
