The members of the UOG Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Student Chapter participated in the Hut Building Competition during the 56th Charter Day Celebration hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA) last March 7, 2024. This exciting event challenged students to design and construct a hut that embodies sustainable, cultural, and innovative design principles.

The competition aimed to encourage students to apply the engineering concepts they have learned in the classroom to a practical, hands-on project. It provided a unique opportunity for them to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. The students were tasked with designing a hut that not only met the sustainability criteria but also reflected the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific Islands.

In preparation for the competition, the students utilized advanced design tools such as AutoCAD and SketchUp. These tools allowed them to create detailed and accurate models of their proposed huts, ensuring that their designs were both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Throughout the process, the students demonstrated remarkable teamwork, creativity, and technical proficiency. They worked tirelessly to ensure that their hut was built to the highest standards, incorporating eco-friendly materials and innovative construction techniques. Participating in the Hut Building Competition was an invaluable experience for the members of the SAME UOG Chapter. It allowed them to showcase their engineering skills, learn new techniques, and gain practical experience in sustainable construction. The event also highlighted the importance of cultural preservation and sustainability in modern engineering practices. It was a great way for them to engage with their community, celebrate their cultural heritage, and contribute to a more sustainable construction here in Guam.
