Free farmer-focused health checkups to be held Aug. 13, 15, 17, and 20
Farmers and agriculture workers, in addition to other Guam residents age 18 and older, are invited to a free community health checkup event being held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 13, 15, 17, and 20 in Mangilao, Inalåhan, Yigo, and Tamuning followed by a free community health seminar on Aug. 24.
The checkup will include a biometric screening for blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, uric acid, and BMI; a nutritional evaluation; a muscle mass and strength assessment, including grip strength, gait speed, and chair stand tests; and a depression assessment using the Geriatric Depression Scale.
The screening is a collaboration between the Farmer Focus Project of University of Guam Cooperative Extension & Outreach and the National Taipei University of Nursing & Health Sciences, the Western Region Agricultural Stress Assistance Program, and the Prevent T2 diabetes education program at UOG.
Following the assessments, participants will receive an on-site review of their results with suggestions for health promotion programs, resources, and next steps.

The Farmer Focus Project at the University of Guam is an extension of the Western Region Agricultural Stress Assistance Program, which is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of farmers and agriculture workers across the nation. The program is working to destigmatize mental health discussions within the agriculture sector and to help the agriculture community improve their physical, social, and emotional health.
