The committee of the University of Guam’s 37th Annual Regional Language Arts Conference (LAC) invite educators, administrators, and the community to attend and present at the Language Arts Conference which will be held in-person on Friday, November 8, 2024, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM and Saturday, November 9, 2024, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

The 37th LAC conference, theme of “Charting New Courses: Persevering and Engaging through Literacy”  encourages us to look at the ways existing spaces of literacy have had to continue forward to accommodate all the emerging challenges. In the past conference, we were primarily focused on identifying the challenges and then identifying ways to overcome them. In this year’s conference we hope to continue the discussion which began with the 36th Annual Regional Language Arts Conference theme of The New Age Classroom: Adapting Our Pedagogy to the Needs of Today.  It not only invites a continued reflection of the ways we have been forced to reimagine, but it also asks us, educators and learners, to revisit our visions of what literacy spaces should be and achieve.

We are hoping this 37th year’s theme of “Charting New Courses: Persevering and Engaging through Literacy”  prompts conversations that invite us to look at what we know and what we have done to inform a need to better our ways and approaches. We hope that this conference offers reflections of the existing history of what was imagined, what has been achieved, and what can be further imagined.

Guiding Questions:

  • Are there ways that the recent challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have redefined our visions for literacy spaces?
  • How can knowing our goals for literacy and understanding what we have done reshape how we approach teaching?
  • What are ways that we look to incorporate our student’s ways of being and knowing into our classroom designs?
  • What are ways that regional cultures are used to contextualize and inform the development of our classes?
