In Memoriam: Carrie Brewster
The University mourns the loss of Carrie Brewster on Jan. 17, 2024, at the age of 71. She died peacefully in her home in Jacksonville, Florida, according to her family. She was the Director of the Isla Center for the Arts between 1991 and 1999 and was the architect of Art-a-Thon, launching it in 1997 as the main fundraiser to support the Center’s operations and help GDOE schools fund art programs.
A celebration of life for Ms. Brewster will be announced later.
She is survived by her brother-in-law Nicholas Di Vito, her daughter Erin Brewster Hicks, and her grandchildren, Lily Marie and Hunter Hicks, as well as her faithful dogs, Chloe and Rascal.
The University keeps Ms. Brewster’s family in our thoughts and prayers.
