$10M NextGen grant gets off the ground with inception workshop
An inception workshop hosted by the University of Guam College of Natural & Applied
Sciences in September brought together the six collaborating institutions of its newly awarded NextGen grant. Over its five-year timespan, this $10 million USDA National Institute of Food and
Agriculture-funded project will be creating pathways for students in the Marianas
to pursue and succeed in the fields of food, agriculture, and natural resources, with
a focus on federal positions.
The program will include opportunities for students enrolled at UOG, Northern Marianas College, and Guam Community College to engage in course sharing, internships, and experiential learning opportunities with the larger institutions of the University of Florida, Utah State University, and the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.
NextGen — short for USDA NIFA's “From Learning to Leading: Cultivating the Next Generation of Diverse Food and Agriculture Professionals Program” — is a $262 million investment in higher education institutions through the Inflation Reduction Act. UOG's grant is one of 33 awarded to minority-serving institutions across the nation.
A webpage with details on the upcoming NextGen student opportunities is forthcoming.
