Calling all freshmen and sophomore undergraduates!
Since 2008, the Student Conservation Association (SCA) has partnered with the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service to provide summer internships for nearly 300 students from
culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
The Guam National Wildlife Refuge at Ritidian will host one intern for a 13-week paid
internship under the Career Discovery Internship Program.
The summer intern will gain a well-rounded, hands-on experience in visitor services,
habitat restoration, and refuge operations while networking with Guam NWR's visitor
community and agency partners. The internship will be from May 22 to August 20, 2023.
Position Duties:
- Assist visitors and other administrative work at the Nature Center
- Support special events, volunteer activities, and/or field trips for local summer
camp programs
- Assist the Refuge bio-tech with biological programs, such as sea turtle nesting inventories
and habitat restoration projects
- Support trail maintenance or other maintenance projects as needed
- Conduct public outreach activities on and off-site to promote awareness of USFWS'
mission and responsible visitation to the Guam NWR
- Conduct/assist with interpretive tours about the cultural and biological significance
of Guam
“I encourage our local university and community college students to apply for this
unique internship,” says Marybelle Quinata, USFWS Park Ranger for Guam NWR. “The intern
will gain valuable work experience and knowledge in local ecology, conservation, and
the community value of the Ritidian Unit.” The intern will travel to the CDIP Orientation
from May 29 to June 3 in the mainland U.S. and network with other interns and professionals.
