The Online Training Resources Team is offering a capstone course in the University of Guam's online teaching certificate program.

OTR is offering the Optimize (OTC III) course on April 13-May 5, 2023.

Optimize certificate course description

Reviewing then building on their Moodle skills, participants will encounter and evaluate more of what Moodle has to offer, learning how to evaluate the value of a Moodle modality for their students and specific learning goals (activity SLOs). The course will reinforce Best Practice Principles (BPPs) of universal design and ADA Accessibility as well as inviting participants to critically review their teaching materials to identify areas for revision or redesign. Participants will delve into Moodle Metrics, course- and activity-level assessment analytics, and formulate a comprehensive plan to optimize their online teaching materials and practices.

Prerequisite: 

Participants should have their Foundations and Enhance certificates in the I Meyeng UOG-Certified Online Teacher program. Participants may petition for outside professional development training to be considered for enrollment.  

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the Optimize certificate course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe a greater range of Moodle features and evaluate their value for specific teaching contexts;  
  • Identify Universal Design and ADA Accessibility issues and modify materials for learning equity;  
  • Locate and apply Moodle Metrics to identify retention concerns and evaluate online teaching effectiveness;  and
  • Design a comprehensive Assessment Plan with online teaching Best Practice Principles (BPPs) guiding their work. 

Optimize Certificate Course Content  

In this certification course participants will learn, practice, and design using best practice methods for online teaching as well as foundational Moodle resources and activities. This course is broken into three consecutive workshops, each designed to be completed in 6-8 hours.
