The Cooperative Extension & Outreach service at the University of Guam is holding three workshops this month focused on agriculture. All workshops require registration but are free to attend.

‘Food for Thought’ Farmer Wellness Seminar

Plus Mini BBQ Boot Camp: The Perfect Steak!

Date: Wednesday, May 17
Time: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: Farmers Co-op Market, Dededo
Who should attend: Farmers, farm workers, social workers

A seminar from the UOG Farmer Focus Project on resources available to support health and wellness among agricultural producers, plus a special BBQ Boot Camp with UOG animal scientist Dr. Jeng-Hung Liu on how to make the perfectly grilled steak.

Food Safety Workshop

Date: Saturday, May 20
Time: 9:30 a.m. – Noon
Location: University of Guam, Agriculture & Life Sciences Bldg., Room 127
Who should attend: Farmers, agriculture-focused small businesses, food safety professionals, restaurant owners and employees

An introduction to produce safety, including hygienic practices for post-harvest handling of produce, and a review of the quality and health benefits of local honeys. Taught by Dr. Jian Yang, professor of food science.

Windbreak Workshop

Date: Friday, May 26
Time: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Location: University of Guam, Agriculture & Life Sciences Bldg., Room 104
Who should attend: Farmers, gardeners, homeowners

A workshop with Extension Specialist Jesse Bamba on how to use ironwood trees and fruit trees to create a windbreak to protect gardens and crops. Each participant will receive an ironwood seedling and a calamansi tree seedling.
