The University mourns the loss of former Regent Andrew T. Laguaña on July 14, 2022, at the age of 71. Mr. Laguaña was a member of the UOG Board of Regents from 2008 to 2012.

Mr. Laguaña earned a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Iowa State University in 1972 and a master’s degree in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley in 1975. He was a public servant and active in our local community.

In addition to his service as a member of the Board of Regents, Mr. Laguaña served on many other boards as a member and chairperson including the Guam PEALS Board, the Western Conference of Architectural Registration Boards (WCARB), the UOG Micronesian Area Research Center, Young Men’s League of Guam, the Guam Preservation Trust Guam Historic Preservation Review Board, and many others.

Throughout his career, Mr. Laguaña received multiple awards and recognitions to include being the first recipient of the AIA Guam and Micronesia Chapter’s Scholarship, a certificate of appreciation from the Capuchin Friars for his assistance in the design and construction of the St. Fidelis Friary, Na’ La’ Bonita Guam award by the Guam Chamber of Commerce, and in 2012, he was elevated by the American Institute of Arhitects to its prestigious College of Fellows in recognition of his achievements as an individual and his significant contribution to architecture on the national level.

Mass of Intention is offered at 6 p.m. July 18-20, 7 a.m. July 21-22, and at 5 p.m. July 23 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Sinajana. Last respects will be from 9 a.m. to noon July 25 at the Senator Antonio M. Palomo Guam Museum and Chamorro Educational Facility in Hagåtña. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. July 26 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, followed by interment at Guam Memorial Park in Leyang, Barrigada.
