The University of Guam received 24 ASUS laptop computers — a combined value of $12,000 — from Honhui Group (Taiwan) during a donation ceremony on Oct. 26 at the university.
Tom Lee, general manager of Honhui Group, which operates in Guam as Honhui Guam LLC, presented the laptops during the ceremony, which was hosted by the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Guam and attended by Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio.
Several of the laptops will be given to dormitory students who are attending UOG from other islands in Micronesia.
The other laptops will be used to bring language and cultural enrichment to children in different villages of Guam through the Community Development unit of UOG Cooperative Extension & Outreach. This will include Mandarin courses and lessons in Chinese culture being taught by two visiting Chinese scholars from the Taiwan Huayu Bilingual Exchanges of Selected Talent (BEST) program.
