The calendar is a joint project of several University of Guam offices and programs, including the Center for Island Sustainability, the Sea Grant program, the National Science Foundation Guam EPSCoR program, and the Guam Green Growth initiative. 

The publication features photos of some of Guam’s best spearfishing catches along with local tide charts provided by the UOG Marine Laboratory, moon phases, sustainable fishing tips, and more. 

According to UOG Sea Grant Associate Director Fran Castro, building on the success of last year’s calendar, this edition includes new features to benefit fishing enthusiasts of all levels. 

“UOG Sea Grant will continue to feature and provide tools and resources for the community to increase awareness on environmental matters,” Castro said. “We thank the local spearfishers for participating in our call for photos and their contribution to our calendar.” 

Each month of the calendar hosts one featured photo per month related to sustainable spearfishing. The photos were selected from nearly 100 locally submitted entries from a photo call-out this past summer. 

“We had such a good number of submissions that we created collages of some of the great photos that were sent in that were not featured during the months,” said Sustainability Coordinator Phil Cruz. 

The calendar is printed on 100% post-consumer recycled fiber and can be picked up at Big Hook, MDA, Axe Murderer Tours, Fa’nui, James’ Tackle, Liquid Soul, Coral Reef, Guam Scuba Wholesale, Southern Mountain Gear, Guam Tropical Dive Station, and the UOG Sea Grant office.
